Concrete Repair Tips

Patching In A Pinch Many of the businesses we work with run into situations where they need to patch some concrete. While we are masters at concrete coatings and concrete repairs and are here to support you, there are times when a concrete repair may make sense to patch in-house. For those times, here’s the official Colorado Concrete Repair guide to getting a reliable, fast, patch in a pinch. In this guide, we will cover partial depth repair that IS NOT on a joint. But, we have a tip for those who have a patch on a joint, without breaking out a grinder and creating an OSHA issue. Materials -PPE – glasses, gloves, respirator, earplugs could be helpful, it might get noisy. -repair mortar – doesn’t stick to concrete very well – spend $20 and get a durable repair grout that adheres to concrete. We like Cementall at home depot. -trowel     -wire brush        -hammer            – drill        -mixing paddle       -mixing bucket Preparation (1) Like any project, preparation usually means […]

COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY WITH PROVIDENCE NETWORK – A BIG SUCCESS!

COLORADO CONCRETE REPAIR SERVICE DAY Our team at Colorado Concrete Repair had the opportunity to get our hands dirty Saturday, September 23rd, at the new Silver Lining House, which is a transitional house for homeless teens. The Lion Project, a non-profit organization that pairs businesses with non-profits to help the needs of the Denver community, organized the event, wherein we completed a couple projects with other Colorado businesses to improve the curb appeal of the Silver Lining House.   This Service Day was our second time working with The Lion Project to help fellow community members in need. At the start of the day we enjoyed an introduction of what the Providence Network does and why this house is so important to their organization. A person who had graduated Providence Network’s road to recovery drug addiction program talked to the group of volunteers to let us know how us joining in the efforts to makeover this one in five Providence Network homeless shelters is transforming lives like his. With their program, he transitioned from being a hopeless drug addict and homeless […]

Floor Sealers

THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN EPOXY AND ACRYLIC SEALERS

When deciding on which sealer to use for your concrete floors, it is best to look at a few main differences between epoxy and acrylic sealers. There are pros and cons to each sealer in terms of the finished look, economics, downtime, and whether you should use it inside or outside. Many people refer to “stained concrete,” “epoxy floors,” “sealed concrete floors,” or even “polished concrete,” as a floor that has been ground smooth, possibly stained or applied with a topcoat of epoxy (usually clear but can be colored), polyurethane, polyaspartic coatings, or an acrylic sealer.  Thus, this article will help you understand when it is best to use a coating, like an epoxy, or a water-based or solvent-based acrylic sealer. Concrete floors are an amazing flooring solution. Not only are they a green flooring solution, they are also easy to maintain in high traffic areas and manufacturing facilities. They are best when sealed properly and with the highest performance products on the market, as well as if an experienced flooring contractor installs the system. Below is a summary […]

Polished Concrete

BENEFITS OF POLISHED CONCRETE

Colorado Concrete Repair specializes in industrial and commercial flooring solutions, including polished concrete, so we’d like to take a moment to share with you polished concrete benefits. Polished concrete floors are a green flooring solution that also contributes to the awarding of a LEED designation; they are also durable and increase the ambient lighting in each space. Let’s review the some of the benefits of polished concrete below. SOME OF THE BENEFITS OF POLISHED CONCRETE INCLUDE: Stain-Resistant: The mechanical process of polishing the concrete, including densifying and sealing the surface, tightens the porous concrete floor to repel liquids, including oil, water and other contaminants. This prevents them from contaminating the surface, however it is still a good idea to clean up spills when they happen, especially acidic liquids. Increased Slip-Resistance: The process of mechanically grinding and polishing a concrete floor increases its coefficient of friction when compared to ordinary concrete. The shininess of the polished concrete can be tricky; it does not make the surface more slippery, but instead polished concrete often exceeds OSHA standards for floors. Less Maintenance: Most flooring systems, […]

WAREHOUSE FLOOR RESURFACING: WHEN IS IT TIME TO RESURFACE YOUR WAREHOUSE FLOOR AND WHAT DO YOU NEED TO CONSIDER?

Colorado Concrete Repair specializes in warehouse floor resurfacing in the Denver metro and Rocky Mountain region. We have powerful machinery and equipment to take on 1,000 sq. ft. projects to more than 10,000 sq. ft. projects. Our specialties include concrete grinding, polished concrete, and epoxy, or concrete coatings. HOW DO YOU KNOW IT’S TIME FOR A WAREHOUSE FLOOR RESURFACING? IS YOUR WAREHOUSE FLOOR READY FOR A RESURFACE? Warehouse floors take on a lot of wear and tear from machinery, including forklifts, foot traffic, chemical, oil, and food spills and stains. This tear can wear away at exposed concrete very quickly if it’s not protected or if the sealer or coating has worn through. Concrete that is cracked or spalling quickly becomes a more dangerous surface for vehicular and foot traffic. Here is what to look out for when deciding if it’s time to reseal or resurface your warehouse floor: Spalling, holes, or cracking on the concrete surface Sealant or coating is wearing off No concrete coating was ever applied Spalling, Holes or Cracking on the Concrete Surface If you see the […]

EPOXY URETHANE FLOOR COATING – A RECENT PROJECT

Colorado Concrete Repair specializes in epoxy urethane floor coatings. We have spent the last decade learning all that we can about the concrete repair and coatings business. We are your experts in transforming dull, spalling, cracked concrete warehouse floors into beautiful, durable, high-performance, and easy-to-clean concrete floors. This past May we refinished a waterproofing membrane manufacturing facility’s 8,000 sq. ft. concrete floor. Our client requested a high-performance floor coating that would brighten up their facility and that would be easier to maintain with good traction to meet safety requirements. THE DECISION-MAKING PROCESS: To meet their specifications, we met with the key decision makers and agreed upon an epoxy urethane system to be completed in one week. We showed the owner and board of directors their choices in color and explained to them the benefits of choosing an epoxy urethane floor coating. Epoxy coatings are traditionally used for large warehouse facilities, in which there is high fork lift traffic, however, we often recommend a urethane topcoat because urethane is more scratch resistant, reduces wear, and makes cleaning easier than an epoxy […]
