Preparation Methods for an Epoxy Coating

Epoxy flooring can be an attractive and long lasting flooring option in an industrial or commercial property. But in order to achieve optimal flooring, preparation is key. The epoxy flooring will only look as good and be as stable as its concrete base. Epoxy will not generally fix issues with a floor, so if your concrete substrate is uneven, has cracks or chips out of it, or has staining, it is necessary to repair this first before putting the epoxy in place. There are a few different methods that a flooring contractor could use to prepare an existing concrete floor for epoxy installation. How a Denver Flooring Contractor Prepares Concrete Flooring for Epoxy Installation The preparation method will depend primarily on the condition of the existing floor. If your flooring contractor lays a concrete floor during the installation process, this will often need less prep than an existing floor that may have experienced damage and wear over the years. Based on the condition of the floor, a contractor can use any of the following options for preparing the concrete floor […]

THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN EPOXY AND ACRYLIC SEALERS

When deciding on which sealer to use for your concrete floors, it is best to look at a few main differences between epoxy and acrylic sealers. There are pros and cons to each sealer in terms of the finished look, economics, downtime, and whether you should use it inside or outside. Many people refer to “stained concrete,” “epoxy floors,” “sealed concrete floors,” or even “polished concrete,” as a floor that has been ground smooth, possibly stained or applied with a topcoat of epoxy (usually clear but can be colored), polyurethane, polyaspartic coatings, or an acrylic sealer.  Thus, this article will help you understand when it is best to use a coating, like an epoxy, or a water-based or solvent-based acrylic sealer. Concrete floors are an amazing flooring solution. Not only are they a green flooring solution, they are also easy to maintain in high traffic areas and manufacturing facilities. They are best when sealed properly and with the highest performance products on the market, as well as if an experienced flooring contractor installs the system. Below is a summary […]

Our specialties include concrete grinding, polished concrete, and epoxy, or concrete coatings. HOW DO YOU KNOW IT’S TIME FOR A WAREHOUSE FLOOR RESURFACING? IS YOUR WAREHOUSE FLOOR READY FOR A RESURFACE? Warehouse floors take on a lot of wear and tear from machinery, including forklifts, foot traffic, chemical, oil, and food spills and stains. This tear can wear away at exposed concrete very quickly if it’s not protected or if the sealer or coating has worn through. Concrete that is cracked or spalling quickly becomes a more dangerous surface for vehicular and foot traffic. Here is what to look out for when deciding if it’s time to reseal or resurface your warehouse floor: Spalling, holes, or cracking on the concrete surface Sealant or coating is wearing off No concrete coating was ever applied Spalling, Holes or Cracking on the Concrete Surface If you see the […]

EPOXY URETHANE FLOOR COATING – A RECENT PROJECT

Colorado Concrete Repair specializes in epoxy urethane floor coatings. We have spent the last decade learning all that we can about the concrete repair and coatings business. We are your experts in transforming dull, spalling, cracked concrete warehouse floors into beautiful, durable, high-performance, and easy-to-clean concrete floors. This past May we refinished a waterproofing membrane manufacturing facility’s 8,000 sq. ft. concrete floor. Our client requested a high-performance floor coating that would brighten up their facility and that would be easier to maintain with good traction to meet safety requirements. THE DECISION-MAKING PROCESS: To meet their specifications, we met with the key decision makers and agreed upon an epoxy urethane system to be completed in one week. We showed the owner and board of directors their choices in color and explained to them the benefits of choosing an epoxy urethane floor coating. Epoxy coatings are traditionally used for large warehouse facilities, in which there is high fork lift traffic, however, we often recommend a urethane topcoat because urethane is more scratch resistant, reduces wear, and makes cleaning easier than an epoxy […]

EPOXY COATING FOR A FORT COLLINS CITY BUILDING

EPOXY COATING PROJECT COMPLETE We completed an epoxy coating project in the Fort Collins Power and Light office building this past month. The client chose to install the quarter inch Copper Mountain flake epoxy system, so that it would be easy to clean, durable to high traffic, and look good. The job was a big success! We transformed 15,000 square feet of rough and unlevel concrete that was previously carpeted into a beautiful, seamless, easy-to-clean floor. The client had decided on this application after having a previous section done and having seen how well it performed with workers walking through the area with muddy boots.   THE PROCESS: Prepwork is arguably the most important part of our trade, and with this floor, we needed to focus on repairing the surface so that it would be nice and flat for the coating to adhere. We moved old pieces of concrete that had broken due to the concrete settling and cracking over time, as well as we filled a lot of cracks and grinded the surface smooth. The floor also required moisture […]
