Before and After Photos of Polished Concrete Flooring at Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms

Polished Concrete Flooring in Littleton, Colorado

Colorado Concrete Repair was contacted by Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms. Most of us here in Denver know all about these gardens, but for those that have yet to have a chance to visit, Chatfield Farms are a 700 acre plant “refuge” hosting buildings that were built in the 1800s over in nearby Littleton, Colorado.

Chatfield Farms has many event spaces in converted farmhouses, where people have weddings and other special events. Colorado Concrete Repair was tasked with repairing and replacing flooring that had long since lost its appeal. We worked with their team to determine their needs for the space.

Objectives for Concrete Flooring

  • better looking
  • easier to clean
  • durability

After consulting with them we recommended polished concrete which would match the character of the space. Our approach was a lot of fun to see the natural beauty of the very old concrete come to life and complement the structure. Here are some of the pictures of this polished concrete project before we got started:

We had a thick coating of old “flake floor” that we had to grind away, and a few high ledges that needed to be brought down and leveled out. We ground everything down to the cement floor, and then patched the cement until we had a flat surface. We found a very old but cool looking concrete floor hiding beneath the gnarly coating. We used a grout coat to help us fill in the small holes, helping turn the flooring into something much shinier and easier to clean.

The Last Steps of the Polished Concrete Process

Then we densified the floor, polished it, polished it again, polished it again until it was smooth and crisp, and finally sealed it. Polished concrete flooring can be a big job, but our team stayed focused on the challenges and the result was better than the customer expected.
